Over the past 34 years, we have strived to create a reputation as a professional company you can trust to get the job done right.
Early Years
Don’s Building Center stands on the same site that was originally a satellite of Standard Lumber Company. Standard Lumber had been an integral part of the Kerkhoven community for many years.
When they announced they would be closing their doors for good, long-time employee and Kerkhoven resident, Don Halverson, and his wife Juanita, made the decision to purchase the business and continue to run it as a full-service lumber yard. Starting out with just Don, Juanita, and two other employees, Don’s Building Center began its journey to serve the community of Kerkhoven and surrounding area with high-quality products and service.
Expanding
In 2016, Don’s Building Center expanded to the west by opening a product and design showroom in Benson, MN. This store front allowed us to showcase several of our products in real-world applications, giving our customers excellent visuals of what their project could look like upon completion.
In 2018, Don’s Building Center continued to grow as we acquired the reputable Kitchen Fair in Willmar, MN. Kitchen Fair is well-known in the region for excellent design, customer service, and quality products. This acquisition has allowed us to become more specialized in cabinetry, countertops, and kitchen/bathroom design.
